“Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the voice of his servant? Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.”
Isaiah 50:10 ESV
There are seasons when darkness feels heavy; when there is no clarity, no direction, and no visible light ahead. In those moments, it’s easy to believe the hardship will last forever. Time seems to slow down, prayers feel unanswered, and the waiting stretches longer than our hearts expect.
I have learned that storms rarely arrive with warnings, and they almost never leave on our timeline. We long for the calm, we plead for relief, but only God knows when the storm will truly pass.
When darkness comes and a storm is brewing, what is our first response?
Do we stand in silence, fearful of the clouds gathering and bracing ourselves for impact?
Or do we choose to trust—resting under the shadow of His wings, confident that God is still sovereign even when we cannot see the way forward?
Trusting God In All Circumstances
Trusting God in difficult times lifts the impossible weight of trying to figure everything out on our own. The truth is humbling but freeing: we are not strong enough to carry these storms alone, but the Lord is.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13 ESV
Faith does not mean we understand the journey; it means we trust in it. It means we entrust the journey to the One who does.
Knowing why doesn’t set you free. Knowing Jesus sets you free.
There have been moments in my life when I couldn’t understand what God was doing in my life when logic failed me, and my emotions were overwhelmed. Yet those were the moments He was teaching me not to lean on my own understanding, but to rely fully on Him.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV
Trusting God when the path is hidden is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of obedience and surrender.
God is the driver, you are the passenger.
He wants to be your companion and Lord as you journey from storm to calm. He does not want you to try it again on your own strength. We’ve all already tried and failed.
These difficult times are ripe opportunities for heart-to-heart discussions with the Father.
And in those times God’s Word will feed and build you up.
What Does It Mean To Trust God?
To trust God in hard times means to believe in your heart His goodness and declaring with your mouth your trust in Him.
Trusting God isn’t only “maybe it will.” Trusting God is “even if it doesn’t.”
It means having faith in the LORD that things will work, and sticking to His Word and His commandments, even when things get rough.
It’s trusting in His character and plan for your life, knowing He is faithful to fulfill His promises and take care of your needs (Matthew 6).
It’s not giving up, freaking out, or making impulsive decisions even when met with a difficult situation.
As times go by and you realize that God is moving on your behalf, protecting you, saving you, encouraging you, giving you hope in the darkness, and so on, your trust builds.
When you first get to know God, there is that initial level of trust. As you continue to follow God’s leading, you will see more and more evidence of God’s faithfulness towards you, His ability to keep you on the right path in life.
You may even see that you avoid danger, because you obey His instructions.
Life experience of abiding in Christ helps you gain more and more trust over time.
Let Go And Let God
I’ve witnessed that when we humble ourselves before the Lord—when we drop to our knees instead of trying to hold everything together—something begins to shift. Sometimes the miracle is external, but often it happens first within our hearts.
God strengthens us at His throne. He replaces worry with peace, confusion with endurance, and fear with His love.
Even when circumstances remain unchanged, we are changed if our hearts remain open to learn from the experience and from God.
As Christians, if we understand the seasons of the Spirit, we will know what God wants to accomplish and be able to respond wisely.
Conversely, if we pass through God’s preparation ground without understanding, we will not know what He wants to accomplish and may act unwisely.
Perhaps this season is one of pruning.
The enemy wants darkness to produce despair, hopelessness, and doubt. But God invites us to ask a different question, not “Why is this happening to me?” but “Lord, what are You teaching me here?”
You can experience peace even when you don’t know what comes next.
We hold on to the fact that He’s in control and even when things are hard, He’s not working with a plan “B.” He’s not panicking, so you don’t have to neither.
Focus On God Not The Storm
In seasons of darkness, perspective matters deeply.
When our focus stays on the storm, our hearts grow heavy and weary. But when our focus shifts to Christ, something miraculous happens: our minds begin to clear, and hope quietly rises again.
Dark seasons often mark a place of growth. Tests are uncomfortable, but they deepen our roots. When we endure, we gain wisdom, resilience, and spiritual strength that cannot be formed any other way.
What feels like pressure is often preparation.
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:2-4 ESV
Endure With Patience
Trials reveal where we place our trust.
Do we turn to the world to numb the pain, or do we turn to Jesus to transform it?
Scripture reminds us that trials mature us, stabilize us, and refine our faith. Our response to hardship matters. When we respond in a way that pleases God, even adversity becomes a tool for gratitude and growth.
In this, you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:6-7 ESV
Dark days often expose who—or what—we truly rely on. And in those moments, trust, faith, and stillness are deeply pleasing to the Lord.
Praise God In The Storm
Everything was stripped from Job, yet he continued to praise the Lord. Aren’t we challenged to do the same?
Sure, things might be different from what you hoped for or prayed for, but the Lord is still in it, and so you can praise Him for the beauty He continues to create in your life.
Worship will get you through the roughest times in your life because it shifts your focus from the problems to the problem solver.
It’s a daily choice to praise God and to not dwell on the hurt. And it does require strength that only the Lord provides. It’s something you must seek diligently, consciously, and fervently.
He knows that thanklessness weighs us down spiritually and makes it much harder for us to see His goodness, faithfulness, and love for us. The practice of thanksgiving is meant to draw us closer to Him; to stir and keep our hearts warm toward Him.
Whatever hurt you’re going through, you’ve been through, or that you’ll eventually walk through, take His hand and trust Him. Don’t let the pain, fear, doubt, or regret take up too much of today.
God Makes Beauty From Ashes
There’s beauty in every moment and every season, and He isn’t going to leave it as dust. He can use the ashes and mold them to form the most beautiful masterpiece your eyes have ever seen.
I began to understand that when I had no strength and was helpless to deal with a situation, I could turn it over to God, and He would provide and meet my needs.
We can rest in His care, knowing that true and lasting happiness and satisfaction is in Him.
worry about nothing, pray about everything
We worry because we have little faith in God’s goodness (Matthew 6:30), which we define based on our circumstances.
This is why Jesus gives us these words in Matthew 6:25-34—the famous “Do Not Worry” passage—not to condemn us, but to give us the means to reset our perspective so that worry will not consume us.
“Your heavenly Father knows that you need [these things]” (Matthew 6:32)—is the medicine we need to take every day, so that we can keep building our resistance against the sickness of worry.
I was yearning for what God could do for me, but He was drawing me into a deeper relationship with Him. He didn’t want me to think about or question what He was doing. He simply wanted me to trust Him and to focus on Him, rather than my struggles.
God Has Not Given Us A Spirit Of Fear
We are not called to fear the storm or the darkness surrounding us. We are called to fear the Lord—the One who commands the winds and pulls us out of the fiercest whirlwinds.
With Christ in the vessel, we can smile at the storm, and we can face the storm—not because it is easy, but because we are not alone.
Jesus is the Light that no darkness can overcome.
“When problems come into your life like a non-stop rain, always remember that God will always be your umbrella.”
If you are walking through a dark season right now, may the Lord strengthen your heart, steady your faith, and remind you that the night will not last forever. Keep trusting. Keep relying. The Light is nearer than you think.
May God bless you and give you the strength to persevere.
If you need prayer, I would love to pray for you. ❤️
